How to create an inviting kitchen
Isn’t it true that everyone ends up in the kitchen?
The kitchen is the most used room in the house, everyone is in there each day. Make it more enjoyable by creating an inviting place for your family and guests to enjoy cooking, eating, conversation and working.
Clear the decks
Clutter gives us a feeling of being unsettled and anxious. Remove the things you don’t use daily and store them away. Make a permanent location for everything, especially gadgets and small items and make a habit of putting them away when you’re done, don’t wait till later! This is the most important habit you can create because it will keep the clutter from creeping back in.
Hang in there
Hang your pots and pans on the wall or from the ceiling, it will free up room in the cabinets. This adds a visual element to the kitchen and allows you to create a meal with ease. It can be as simple as mounting a few towel bars horizontally on the wall with some hooks for the pots and pans to hang from. Or, you could get creative and re-purpose an old iron gate as the hanging rack. Just clean it up and mount it horizontally from the ceiling, attach some hooks for your pots and pans and you have an original, functional addition to your kitchen!
Display your wares
Put those beautiful dishes out for everyone to see instead of hiding them away. Place a variety of dishes on the buffet or in a china cabinet and rotate them so you can enjoy them regularly. Make it a point to use them every day and each meal will feel like a special occasion!
Bring nature indoors
Add some color and texture to your kitchen to soften and refresh it with flowering and leafy plants. Make sure you determine which type of plant will thrive in your room so it can be a lasting part of your environment. You’ll feel uplifted by bringing a little nature indoors.
How to find things easily in your kitchen
Create an efficient kitchen
Having an organized kitchen is important in running it efficiently. Whether you’re cooking a meal or just preparing a quick snack, things need to be handy. Organizing the cabinets and drawers will save you time, no more searching for the items you need and more time enjoying what you’re doing. Focus on making your kitchen functional and attractive and you’ll look forward to cooking again!
Do it the easy way, one area at a time
Start by removing everything from the cabinet or drawer you want to organize. Clean the drawer, remove the old shelf liner and replace it with something fresh and new. Now you’re ready to fill it up with only the good stuff!
Look at each item
Determine if you really use it or if it gets pushed to the back of the cabinet. Be honest, it’s the best policy! If it’s not a keeper put it in a box for donation and move on to the next piece. Keep going until the only items left are the things you actually use. Letting go of items you no longer use or are used once in a blue moon is the key to gaining more space and order in your kitchen. Besides, when they’re donated, someone is going to love them and will be grateful to receive them.
Keep similar items together
Group the pieces you have left by putting similar items together. In other words, keep all plates together, all glasses together, all serving pieces together, etc. This will make it so much easier to find what you need when you need it.
Place each group of items back into the cabinet putting the ones you use most frequently toward the front and on the lower shelves for easy accessibility. Items used less often can go on the upper shelves.
Admire your beautifully organized kitchen and smile at how easy it is to find things now!
