Organize your closet to define your style.
The most important thing to keep in mind when tackling your closet is to be honest with yourself about what you wear and what you don’t.
If it doesn’t make you feel good, toss it! The goal is to end up with a closet full of clothes you enjoy wearing and to add new pieces which define your personal style.
Do a little or a lot.
You can start small by taking a few items out of your closet and ask yourself the following 3 questions. Continue doing a little at a time until you’re done or if you feel confident, go through the entire closet at once!
If you decide to do the entire closet, remember to allow enough time to make decisions on each piece and to get everything put back together by the end of the day!
Ask these three questions:
- Does it fit me right now?
- Have I worn it in the last year?
- Does it make me feel good when I wear it?
If you got a “yes” to all the questions, then it goes back in the closet. If you got a “no” to any of the questions, then donate it.
Keep only what makes you feel good.
By getting rid of the clothes you don’t wear often (or never at all), you’ll end up with only the clothes you really enjoy. You’ll also gain more space in the closet for new pieces that are needed to round out your wardrobe.
Look at the clothes left hanging in your closet and find the gaps where certain pieces are needed. Women, you may need a long sleeve white blouse, a sparkly top or a new little black dress. Men, you may need an updated sports coat, shirts or ties.
Make a list of the pieces that will help complete your collection. Go shopping and have fun creating a wardrobe that makes you feel great and defines your personal style!
